Shri R. K. Vishnoi, Chairman and Managing Director of THDC India Limited, announced that the 38th semi-annual meeting of the City Official Language Implementation Committee, Haridwar, was held at the National Institute of Hydrology, Roorkee. Highlighting THDC India Limited’s significant role in promoting and implementing the official language Hindi, Shri Vishnoi noted that THDC has been managing the City Official Language Implementation Committee, Haridwar, for the past seven years. Through this committee, THDC India Limited is committed to strengthening the implementation of Hindi not only within its own institution but also across its member institutions. He further emphasized that THDC is actively supporting the Government of India, Ministry of Home Affairs, and Department of Official Language in achieving the goal of promoting Hindi.
Shri Vishnoi explained the formation of City Official Language Implementation Committees, stating that these are established by the Government of India, Ministry of Home Affairs, Department of Official Language, in cities where there are 10 or more central government institutions, to fully integrate Hindi into official work. Currently, around 531 such committees are functioning across the country. These committees provide a platform for their member institutions to discuss challenges and difficulties in implementing Hindi. He emphasized that the development of the Hindi language not only unites the country but also contributes to national culture, lifestyle, and overall economic development.
The 38th meeting of the committee was held today at the Jal Tarang Auditorium of the National Institute of Hydrology, Roorkee, hosted by the institute. The meeting was chaired by Shri Shailendra Singh, Director (Personnel) of THDC India Limited and the committee’s chairman. The meeting was attended by heads, representatives, and official language officers from various central government institutions in Haridwar, Roorkee, Rishikesh, and the surrounding hilly areas.
The event began with the presentation of bouquets to Shri Shailendra Singh, Deputy Director of the Ministry of Home Affairs’ Department of Official Language, Shri Chhabil Kumar Meher, Director of the National Institute of Hydrology, Shri Manmohan Kumar Goyal, Director of IIT Roorkee, Prof. Kamal Kishore Pant, Director of CBRI Roorkee, Shri R. Pradeep Kumar, Executive Director of BHEL Haridwar, Shri T. S. Murli, and other distinguished guests. The program commenced with the lighting of the ceremonial lamp by the dignitaries. Officers from the National Institute of Hydrology presented a hymn on water, followed by a video presentation of the song “Hindi Bharat Maa Ki Bindi.” Shri Manmohan Kumar Goyal, Director of the National Institute of Hydrology, delivered the welcome address.
The committee’s secretary, Shri Pankaj Kumar Sharma, initiated the proceedings with the chairman’s permission. He provided an overview of the various programs and activities conducted under the committee’s aegis during the last six months and shared the latest updates related to the official language. On this occasion, employees who won competitions organized under the auspices of the City Official Language Implementation Committee, with the support of Canara Bank and State Bank of India, were awarded. The dignitaries on stage, including the honorable chairman Shri Shailendra Singh, presented the awards to the winners.
The event also featured the release of the committee’s annual magazine “Gyan Prakash,” the July 2024 issue of the National Institute of Hydrology’s magazine “Jal Chetna,” and the June 2024 issue of THDC’s semi-annual official language magazine “Pahal.” Officers from the National Institute of Hydrology presented an implementation report on the use of Hindi within their institution. A discussion session was also held, during which heads and representatives of member institutions provided valuable suggestions.
Shri Chhabil Kumar Meher, Deputy Director of the Ministry of Home Affairs’ Department of Official Language, reviewed the semi-annual reports submitted by member institutions and requested that factual data be accurately filled in. He also shared the latest information related to the use of Hindi in his address.
The Executive Director of BHEL Haridwar, Shri T. S. Murli, Director of CBRI Roorkee, Prof. R. Pradeep Kumar, and Director of IIT Roorkee, Shri Kamal Kishore Pant, also addressed the gathering, emphasizing the importance of strengthening Hindi implementation in their institutions.
In his address, Shri Shailendra Singh, Director (Personnel) of THDC India Limited, expressed gratitude to all the institutions that supported the operation of the City Official Language Implementation Committee. He congratulated the competition winners and encouraged them to motivate more of their colleagues to participate in upcoming competitions. He mentioned that on Independence Day, we remember those who sacrificed everything for the country and also the writers and poets who inspired the youth with their literature and poetry. Shri Singh highlighted that Hindi played a crucial role in uniting the nation during the freedom struggle, which is why the Constituent Assembly declared it as the official language of the Union on September 14, 1949. Every year, we celebrate Hindi Day to commemorate this. He urged all institutions to celebrate this day with great enthusiasm in their offices in September. He also noted that Hindi has now spread to 130 countries, is the official language of Fiji, and is gaining prominence as a regional language in Mauritius, Trinidad, Guyana, and Suriname. Therefore, he emphasized the need to take pride in using Hindi for official work.
