THDC India Limited has successfully commenced the commercial operation of the 2nd Unit (660 MW) of the 1320 MW Khurja Super Thermal Power Project (KSTPP), marking a significant milestone in India’s power sector. The inauguration was held virtually, with the Union Minister of Power, Housing & Urban Affairs, Government of India, flagging off the operation.
2×660 MW project, executed through 14 specialized packages, had already achieved COD of its first unit in January 2025. Despite challenges such as the COVID-19 pandemic, both units are now fully operational, adding reliable and efficient power to the national grid. The plant, equipped with ultra-supercritical technology, high-efficiency environmental safeguards, and a captive coal linkage from Amelia Mine, is expected to generate 9,264 MU annually.
Union Minister of Power, Housing & Urban Affairs, lauded THDCIL and all stakeholders for completing the project in record time, emphasizing its role in enhancing grid stability, supporting regional development, and meeting the energy requirements of Uttar Pradesh, which will receive 64.7% of the power generated. The Minister highlighted that the project reinforces India’s commitment to modern, efficient, and sustainable power infrastructure.
COD ceremony was attended virtually by senior dignitaries including the Minister of Energy & Urban Development, Government of Uttar Pradesh, Chairperson of the Central Electricity Authority, Additional Secretaries of the Ministry of Power, THDCIL CMD, and senior officials from THDCIL, NTPC, Bharat Heavy Electricals Limited, Steag, RITES, GE Vernova, L&T, EMERSON, and other project partners.

Khurja Super Thermal Power Project, strategically located in Uttar Pradesh, strengthens the state’s energy self-reliance and serves as a benchmark for thermal power projects executed with ultra-supercritical technology, sustainability measures, and efficient project management.
