SECI and DRDO Collaborate to Boost Solar Power and Achieve Green Goals

New Delhi, 13 September 2025 – In a major step towards sustainable energy and achieving Net Zero Carbon targets, Solar Energy Corporation of India (SECI) and the Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) under the National Solar Mission. The partnership aims to generate 250 MW of solar power, supporting DRDO’s vision of becoming a Green Organisation.

As part of the collaboration, a land use agreement has been executed for 402 acres at the Aeronautical Test Range, Chitradurga, Karnataka, to develop 100 MW of solar power dedicated to DRDO laboratories across India. The power generated will be supplied at concessional rates, facilitating cost-effective, clean energy for defence research facilities.

This initiative aligns with India’s energy neutrality goals and demonstrates the combined commitment of SECI and DRDO to renewable energy adoption, carbon reduction, and sustainable development. The partnership also underscores the government’s focus on integrating green energy solutions into strategic sectors, ensuring long-term environmental and operational benefits.
