Chennai, February 18, 2025: In a significant step toward eliminating preventable blindness, REC Limited, through its CSR arm, REC Foundation, has partnered with Sankara Eye Hospital, Pammal, Chennai, to provide free cataract surgeries for 8,000 economically disadvantaged individuals. Through this partnership, REC Foundation has pledged ₹6 crore to the Eye Care for All initiative, providing essential eye care services to those in need.
The Memorandum of Association (MoA) was formally signed on February 17, 2025, by Smt. Thara Ramesh, Chief Program Manager (CPM) at REC Regional Office Chennai, and Wg Cdr V. Shankar (Retd.), Trustee of Sankara Eye Hospital, Trustee, Sankara Eye Hospital. The signing took place in the presence of **Shri Narayanan Thirupathy, Director (Independent), Accompanied by senior representatives from REC’s Regional Office in Chennai and Sankara Eye Hospital.
This initiative is a crucial step toward restoring vision and enhancing the quality of life for underprivileged patients in and around Chennai. By providing free-of-cost cataract surgeries, the project aims to make quality eye care accessible to those who need it the most.
