Prayagraj – Union Minister of Railways, Information & Broadcasting, and Electronics & Information Technology, Ashwini Vaishnaw, interacted with Chief Loco Inspectors (CLIs) during his visit to Nashik. The CLIs were undergoing training at the Indian Railways Institute of Electrical Engineering (IRIEEN), Nashik. The minister discussed key issues related to modernizing locomotive operations and enhancing safety measures across Indian Railways.
During the interaction, Shri Vaishnaw specifically asked about their training experiences and the use of the ‘Kavach’ technology. The CLIs shared how the Kavach system has boosted their confidence in maintaining speed, enhancing both safety and punctuality during train operations. The discussions also covered topics such as modern braking systems, new locomotive technology, and effective crew management practices.
Shri S.K. Rathi, CLI from the Bhopal division, shared his insights, stating, “Just as interlocking helps the Station Master and PSC Sleeper tracks assist Trackmen, the Kavach technology is a great aid for Loco Pilots in ensuring safer train operations.” Another CLI added that Kavach not only ensures safer operations but also provides peace of mind to loco pilots and their families by preventing SPAD (Signal Passing at Danger) incidents and ensuring safety at level crossings.
The Union Minister appreciated the ongoing efforts of Indian Railways to improve working conditions for the crew, such as 100% air-conditioned running rooms and enhanced facilities for the running staff. He also acknowledged initiatives to reduce duty hours by splitting rosters and enhancing the safety of loco cabs with air-conditioning, toilets, and ergonomic seating.
Shri Vaishnaw encouraged the CLIs to fully leverage the modern technologies being introduced and emphasized the importance of continuous learning, dedication, and commitment in maintaining the high standards of Indian Railways.
