Celebrating National Youth Day with Visionary Goals for a Developed India
On the occasion of National Youth Day, commemorating Swami Vivekananda’s birth anniversary, Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi participated in the Viksit Bharat Young Leaders Dialogue 2025 at Bharat Mandapam, New Delhi. Addressing 3,000 dynamic youth leaders, the Prime Minister emphasized the transformative power of India’s Yuva Shakti (youth power) in shaping the nation’s future.
Empowering Youth for a Developed India
The Prime Minister highlighted Swami Vivekananda’s enduring belief in the potential of India’s youth, remarking that Swamiji’s trust in young minds is evident in today’s 21st-century generation. Shri Modi expressed confidence that the energy, innovation, and determination of India’s youth would propel the nation toward its goal of becoming a developed country by 2047.
Reflecting on India’s rapid progress, the Prime Minister shared examples of ambitious national achievements, including:
- Becoming open defecation-free within five years.
- Providing over 100 million gas connections to households.
- Achieving renewable energy goals nine years ahead of schedule.
- Conducting the world’s largest vaccination campaign during the COVID-19 pandemic.
Engaging Young Minds
The Viksit Bharat Young Leaders Dialogue was conceived as a platform to engage the brightest youth in shaping India’s future. Participants, selected through the Viksit Bharat Challenge, showcased innovative ideas on ten pivotal themes critical to national development, such as technology, sustainability, women empowerment, manufacturing, and agriculture.
The Prime Minister released a compilation of the best essays written by participants, commending their grounded, solution-driven approaches. The insights and recommendations from the event will be incorporated into national policies, amplifying the youth’s role in governance.
Investing in Education and Infrastructure
Shri Modi underscored the government’s commitment to empowering youth through education and infrastructure development:
- Establishing a new university every week and two colleges daily.
- Expanding IITs, IIITs, IIMs, and medical colleges across the country.
- Increasing India’s representation in global educational rankings from nine institutions in 2014 to 46 in 2024.
The Prime Minister also highlighted India’s remarkable economic growth, stating that the nation is on track to become a $5 trillion economy and beyond, significantly expanding opportunities for the youth.
Vision for a Developed India
The dialogue concluded with the Prime Minister urging young leaders to step out of their comfort zones, take risks, and actively contribute to India’s progress. He emphasized the importance of a united effort to achieve the vision of a developed, economically strong, culturally rich, and ecologically balanced India.
The event, featuring cultural performances and thematic discussions, symbolized the confluence of tradition and modernity, showcasing the aspirations of India’s youth.
