Prime Minister Lays Foundation Stone for SJVN 200 MW Solar Project at Khavda Solar Park

In a major step towards India’s renewable energy goals, the Prime Minister virtually laid the foundation stone for SJVN’s 200 MW Solar Power Project (GUVNL Phase – XVII) at Khavda Solar Park, Kachchh, Gujarat. The project, being developed by Gujarat State Electricity Corporation Limited (GSECL), will supply power to Gujarat Urja Vikas Nigam Limited (GUVNL) for 25 years at a tariff of Rs. 2.88 per unit.

The foundation ceremony was attended by top dignitaries including the Chief Minister of Gujarat, Union Ministers of Ports, Shipping and Waterways, Labour and Employment, Jal Shakti, Consumer Affairs, Food & Public Distribution, and other senior officials from SJVN and SGEL. CMD of SJVN, Directors, and senior executives participated virtually.

The 200 MW Khavda Solar Project, with an estimated investment of ₹866.8 crore, is expected to generate 504.92 million units of electricity in the first year and a cumulative 11,620 million units over 25 years. It is anticipated to reduce carbon emissions by 5,69,250 tonnes over its operational life. Scheduled for commissioning by December 31, 2026, the project will utilize arid land in Kachchh to generate clean energy, creating direct and indirect employment in the region.

This initiative aligns with India’s commitment to achieving 500 GW of renewable energy capacity by 2030 and the Net Zero target by 2070. SJVN, a Navratna CPSE under the Ministry of Power, has already commissioned 14 projects totaling 2,968 MW and 123 km of transmission lines, and continues to implement power projects across India and Nepal.

The Khavda project is expected to significantly enhance Gujarat’s renewable energy capacity while contributing to the nation’s sustainable growth agenda, supporting clean energy transition, and meeting increasing power demands.
