Maharatna PSU reports consolidated income of ₹12,055 crore, invests ₹16,864 crore in capital expenditure and secures six transmission projects

New Delhi, November 1, 2026: Power Grid Corporation of India Limited (POWERGRID), a Maharatna public sector undertaking under the Ministry of Power, has reported an 8% year-on-year increase in consolidated Profit After Tax (PAT) to ₹3,866 crore for the quarter ended September 30, 2026.

The POWERGRID Q2 FY27 Results also showed a 3% rise in consolidated total income to ₹12,055 crore compared with the corresponding quarter of the previous financial year, reflecting growth in the company’s reported financial performance.

According to the financial results announced by POWERGRID, the company recorded a standalone net profit of ₹3,819 crore during the second quarter of FY2026-27, while standalone total income stood at ₹11,900 crore.

On a consolidated basis, the company’s net profit reached ₹3,866 crore, while total income was ₹12,055 crore. The consolidated figures include the financial performance of POWERGRID and its subsidiaries.

The company also reported substantial investment in transmission infrastructure during the first half of the financial year. POWERGRID incurred consolidated capital expenditure of ₹16,864 crore up to September 30, 2026, demonstrating continued investment in electricity transmission infrastructure.

During the same period, the company capitalised assets worth ₹9,300 crore on a consolidated basis. The reported capitalisation excludes Foreign Exchange Rate Variation (FERV) and includes assets capitalised as finance leases.

POWERGRID’s consolidated gross fixed assets, including gross lease receivables, stood at ₹3,29,852 crore as of September 30, 2026.

The company’s operational network continued to represent a major part of India’s electricity transmission infrastructure. At the end of the second quarter of FY27, POWERGRID and its subsidiaries operated 1,87,576 circuit kilometres (ckm) of transmission lines across the country.

The network also included 293 substations and a total transformation capacity of 6,49,116 MVA, reflecting the scale of the company’s electricity transmission operations.

POWERGRID maintained an average transmission system availability of 99.81% up to the second quarter of FY27. The availability figure indicates the proportion of time the transmission system remained available for operation during the reported period.

The company also strengthened its project portfolio during the quarter through the Tariff Based Competitive Bidding (TBCB) mechanism.

During Q2 FY27, POWERGRID emerged as the successful bidder for six electricity transmission projects. These included five Inter-State Transmission System (ISTS) projects and one Intra-State Transmission System (InSTS) project.

Among the major projects secured was the ±800 kV Barmer-II–South Kalamb High Voltage Direct Current (HVDC) transmission project.

HVDC technology is used for transmitting large amounts of electricity over long distances and is an important component of modern power transmission infrastructure.

The six projects secured during the quarter will add to POWERGRID’s project portfolio, although the company did not specify their combined investment value or commissioning timelines in the announcement.

POWERGRID’s financial and operational performance during the quarter highlights its continuing role in developing, operating and expanding India’s electricity transmission network.

With consolidated net profit rising 8%, continued capital expenditure, high transmission system availability and new projects secured through competitive bidding, the company enters the second half of FY27 with an expanded project portfolio and ongoing infrastructure investment.
