Power Grid Corporation of India Limited (POWERGRID) gave a glimpse of its digital transformation journey at a workshop organized by the Departmental Public Sector Enterprises (DPE) on the adoption of Industry 4.0 technology in Public Sector Undertakings (CPSEs). Shri Naveen Srivastava, Director (Operations), POWERGRID made a comprehensive presentation on the topic “Use of Industry 4.0 Technologies – Perspectives from POWERGRID”.
At the workshop, POWERGRID shared several of its notable initiatives, including cutting-edge applications such as AI-based predictive maintenance, digital substations, AR/VR-assisted inspection, and smart grid technology. These initiatives have made the company a leader in operational efficiency and real-time monitoring in the digital age.
It is worth noting that in this workshop, only two utility companies were invited to share their experiences, one of which was POWERGRID. This in itself is a recognition that the company is taking concrete and practical initiatives towards Industry 4.0.
During his presentation, Shri Srivastava explained how POWERGRID has made significant improvements in areas such as integration of digital technology into its operations, predictive maintenance, time saving, cost-cutting and workplace safety. He pointed out that digital substations not only provide real-time data, but also make remote monitoring and control possible.
Moreover, the Augmented Reality (AR) and Virtual Reality (VR) technologies adopted by the company are also making the inspection and training process more effective and accurate. All this shows POWERGRID’s commitment towards the development of smart and sustainable infrastructure.
The experts and other CPSE representatives present at the workshop also appreciated the initiative of POWERGRID and saw it as a rollout model. The event organized by DPE was organized with the objective of guiding and incentivizing CPSEs towards digital transformation.
Overall, the participation of POWERGRID in this workshop and the digital innovations presented demonstrate how even a public sector company can make a tangible contribution towards national priorities such as Atmanirbhar Bharat, Digital India, and Smart Infrastructure by adopting technology and innovation.
