Drug abuse has become one of the most dangerous threats to our society today. No section of the population is immune to its grip, and alarmingly, schoolchildren have become the latest targets. Drug mafias are now using deceitful methods—like disguising harmful substances as candies—to trap young, innocent minds. The consequences are tragic: bright futures are lost, families are shattered, and society suffers deeply.

In the face of this growing crisis, one man from Kerala has taken up a powerful and unique mission to fight back.

Meet Ratheesh Varavoor, a passionate social activist from Varavoor, Thrissur district, who has chosen a creative medium—Mono Acting—to raise awareness about the dangers of drug abuse. His performances bring to life the heartbreaking journey of a young student, lured by drug peddlers, whose life spirals into ruin. Through gripping storytelling and emotional expression, Ratheesh exposes the dark tactics used by the drug mafia and sends a strong message: Drugs Destroy Lives.

From a Five-Minute Debut to a Statewide Movement

Ratheesh began this journey in 2022 with a brief 5-minute mono act at the Keralolsavam festival, a government-organized event. The response was overwhelming. Encouraged by the support, he developed a powerful 45-minute act, filled with emotional depth, strong narration, and impactful visuals.

Since then, he has become a familiar figure in Kerala’s anti-drug campaigns. Collaborating with the Kerala State Government and various social organizations, Ratheesh has performed in over 600 venues—schools, colleges, libraries, cultural festivals, roadside junctions, and more, not only across Kerala but even in New Delhi.

A Multi-Talented Advocate for Change

Ratheesh is not just a performer—he is a versatile artist. He has worked as a playwright, dubbing artist, and actor in short films. He is currently working on a feature film script and has plans to create another Mono Act—this time focusing on eradicating superstitions from society.

Despite working full-time at a reputed newspaper, Ratheesh devotes all his holidays and spare time to this social cause. Behind him stands a strong support system—his parents Bhaskaran Nair and Vijayalakshmi, his wife Soumya, and their son Dhruv—who believe in his mission.

His Dream: A Thousand Performances and a National Stage

Ratheesh’s goal is bold but clear:

• To spread awareness among children, youth, and parents
• And to present his act before leaders like Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi, Kerala Chief Minister Shri Pinarayi Vijayan, Union Minister Shri Suresh Gopi, and legendary actors Mammootty and Mohanlal
