NITI Aayog’s Atal Innovation Mission’s Mega Tinkering Day Sets National and Asian Records with Unprecedented Student Participation

NITI Aayog’s Atal Innovation Mission (AIM) has achieved a historic milestone as its major initiative, Mega Tinkering Day 2025, entered both India Book of Records and Asia Book of Records for the largest number of students participating in tinkering activity on the single day. On 12 August 2025, a record 4,73,350 students from 9,467 Atal Tinkering Lab (ATL) schools across the country joined a live, step-by-step online session to design solutions for Swachh Bharat and built their own DIY vacuum cleaner.

The records were officially confirmed and announced by the Bharat Book of Records and Asia Book of Records on 15 September 2025, marking an important recognition of AIM’s success in promoting innovation and scientific nature among the youth of India.

Mission director Deepak Bagla highlighted that this initiative reflects the Viksit Bharat’s vision of the Prime Minister, where innovation and youth power run the development story of India. He emphasized that Mega Tinkering Day is more than a record-it is a nationwide movement that shows the collective creativity and problem-solution skills of young innovators from the country’s distant corners in the busiest cities of the country.

Mega Tinkering Day reached every part of India, including the frontier areas of Leh, Ladakh, Kargil, and Kashmir, North-Eastern States of Virudhunagar, Manipur, Mizoram and Arunachal Pradesh, and in the south, distant geography such as Kanniyakumari  and aspirations like Bhuj in the west. The scale of participation demonstrated the ability of AIM to remove geographical and infrastructural obstacles, which unite students in a common journey of discovery and innovation.

Since its inception, the Atal Innovation Mission has established more than 10,000 atal tinkering labs across the country, which provides students with 3D printing, robotics, Internet of Things (IOT), and state -of -the -art techniques in state -of -the -art techniques. By solving the problem, nurturing design thinking and entrepreneurship, the AIM is equipping the next generation as tomorrow’s innovators and changes-makers.
