National Highways Authority of India (NHAI), in collaboration with Vertis Infrastructure Trust, has launched Project Aarohan, a flagship education support initiative for the children of toll plaza employees. The program was inaugurated at NHAI Headquarters, New Delhi, by Shri Santosh Kumar Yadav, Chairman, NHAI, in the presence of Dr. Zafar Khan, Executive Director & Joint CEO of Vertis Infrastructure Trust, along with senior NHAI officials.
The initiative seeks to bridge socio-economic gaps and provide equal access to quality education for students from economically weaker sections (EWS), including girls from low-income households, first-generation learners, and those belonging to SC, ST, OBC, and minority communities. By addressing financial barriers, NHAI aims to empower students and foster inclusive growth.
Implemented by SMEC Trust’s Bharat Cares, the first phase of Project Aarohan (July 2025 – March 2026) has been allocated ₹1 crore. Under the scheme, 500 students from Class 11 up to graduation will receive annual scholarships of ₹12,000 each during FY 2025–26. In addition, 50 meritorious students pursuing postgraduate and higher studies will be supported with scholarships worth ₹50,000 each.
Beyond financial assistance, Project Aarohan integrates mentorship programs, skill-building workshops, and career guidance sessions, designed to holistically prepare students for higher education, employment opportunities, and entrepreneurship. The initiative underscores NHAI’s commitment to not only building highways but also building futures.
Speaking at the launch, NHAI Chairman Shri Santosh Kumar Yadav said that Project Aarohan reflects NHAI’s resolve to invest in human capital, empower young learners, and contribute to nation-building by ensuring that no child is left behind due to economic hardship.
