Indian Coast Guard Ship (ICGS) Adamya, the first of eight Adamya-class Fast Patrol Vessels (FPVs), was commissioned at Paradip Port to strengthen India’s maritime security and surveillance capabilities. The commissioning was conducted by Satyajit Mohanty, Joint Secretary (AF & Policy), Ministry of Defence, in the presence of Inspector General Yoginder Dhaka, TM, CoS Headquarters Eastern Seaboard, and senior dignitaries from central and state government.
Meaning ‘indomitable’, Adamya reflects the Indian Coast Guard’s commitment to safe, secure, and clean seas. The 51-meter FPV has been indigenously designed and built by Goa Shipyard Limited, featuring over 60% indigenous content, supporting the Government’s ‘Make in India’ initiative and enhancing national maritime capabilities.
The vessel displaces approximately 320 tons and is powered by two 3,000 KW diesel engines, achieving a maximum speed of 28 knots and an endurance of 1,500 nautical miles at economical speed. Adamya is the first ICG ship fitted with indigenously developed Controllable Pitch Propellers (CPP) and gearboxes, providing superior maneuverability, operational flexibility, and performance at sea. Its weaponry includes a 30 mm CRN 91 gun and two 12.7 mm stabilized remote-controlled machine guns, supported by advanced fire control systems. The ship also features an Integrated Bridge System (IBS), Integrated Platform Management System (IPMS), and Automated Power Management System (APMS) to enhance operational efficiency.
ICGS Adamya will be based at Paradip, Odisha, under the operational and administrative control of Commander, Coast Guard Region (North East) through Commander, Coast Guard District Headquarters No. 7 (Odisha). The vessel will undertake maritime surveillance and security operations, safeguarding India’s maritime interests.
The ship is commanded by Commandant (JG) Anurag Pandey and has a complement of 5 officers and 34 personnel. The commissioning of Adamya is expected to further strengthen the operational capability of the Indian Coast Guard in performing diverse maritime tasks.
