The Department of Animal Husbandry & Dairying (DAHD), in collaboration with the World Organisation for Animal Health (WOAH), successfully organized a PPP Targeted Support Workshop from February 11-13, 2025, in New Delhi. The workshop focused on strengthening veterinary services through public-private partnerships (PPP) to enhance animal health and disease control in India.
Key discussions emphasized:
✅ Establishing NABL-accredited veterinary laboratories at the district level.
✅ Strengthening Foot-and-Mouth Disease (FMD)-Free Zones and disease surveillance.
✅ Building veterinary workforce capacity through structured training programs.
✅ Developing a robust veterinary vaccine value chain for self-reliance.
✅ Defining a comprehensive PPP policy to integrate private sector expertise.
DAHD Secretary Ms. Alka Upadhyaya highlighted that livestock contributes over 30% to India’s Agricultural Gross Value Added (GVA) and emphasized the need for a structured PPP policy within a year to boost veterinary services. Dr. Hirofumi Kugita (WOAH) acknowledged India’s leadership in veterinary services and its potential to contribute globally through knowledge-sharing.
The workshop brought together over 100 stakeholders, including government bodies, research institutions, vaccine manufacturers, and international organizations. Discussions led to a PPP roadmap, outlining strategies for resource mobilization, risk management, and disease control, ensuring a sustainable ecosystem for India’s animal health sector.
