Five -day training programs on operation and management of rural water supply schemes in Andaman and Nicobar Islands

This training module is to be conducted in a phased manner in all other states/union territories. The Chief Secretary of the Andaman and Nicobar Islands Government, Mr. Chandra Bhushan Kumar, IAS adorned the inaugural session as the chief guest.

Addressing the gathering, the Chief Secretary emphasized the importance of training and capacity of field engineers to ensure stability of water supply schemes. He said that a lot of work has been done on supply management and now it is necessary to work on demand party management.
The purpose of the training course is to increase the operational and managerial capabilities of the Andaman and Nicobar Administration Junior Engineers (JE) and Assistant Engineers (AE) in effectively managing water supply schemes. The content of this training program has been prepared by a team of experts at SPM Niwas by discussing with the APWD officers according to the requirements of Andaman and Nicobar Islands, including the following topics:-

Water supply systems and challenges in Andaman and Nicobar Islands.

Safe Drinking Water: BIS standard and sample collection frequency.
Operations and maintenance of surface-based schemes in Andaman and Nicobar, Spring Source, Sand Filter, Pressure Filter and various components
Distribution management and maintenance.
Practical strategies to reduce water loss/non-revenue water (NRW) in Andaman and Nicobar.
Community participation in civil service distribution and grievance redressal and water management.
Financial plan of operation and management of rural water supply.
Shri Priyatu Mandal, IAS, JS cum Director and Principal, Virtueli attended the inauguration session. In his online address, Shri Priyatu Mandal mentioned that SPM residence is a major institution dedicated to pursue knowledge and capacity in water and hygiene areas
