EIL Signs MoU with Dangote Group for Second Train of Africa’s Largest Refinery

Engineers India Limited (EIL) has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Dangote Group to serve as Project Management Consultant (PMC) and EPCM consultant for the second train of the Dangote Refinery at the Lekki Free Zone, Nigeria.

The MoU formalises EIL’s role in supporting the expansion of Africa’s largest single-train refinery, building on the successful delivery of the first 650,000 barrels-per-day (bpd) train commissioned in 2024. Under the expansion plan, Dangote Refinery aims to double its capacity to 1.4 million bpd by 2028, complemented by world-scale petrochemical and fertilizer facilities.

The agreement was signed by Vartika Shukla, C&MD of EIL, and Aliko Dangote, Founder, President, and Chief Executive of the Dangote Group, reinforcing the long-standing partnership between the two organisations.

The expansion is a transformative project for Africa’s energy sector and a significant global undertaking. EIL’s appointment as PMC and EPCM consultant highlights the trust in its capability to deliver complex, large-scale projects with engineering excellence and global execution standards.

EIL will leverage its multidisciplinary expertise and decades of project experience to manage engineering, procurement, and construction aspects of the second train. The company will ensure that the refinery and associated petrochemical and fertilizer facilities achieve world-class operational and technological benchmarks.

Once completed, the expanded Dangote Refinery will be among the largest single-location refinery complexes globally, serving as a cornerstone for Africa’s industrial growth, energy security, and petrochemical self-sufficiency. The project also reinforces EIL’s reputation as a trusted partner for large-scale energy infrastructure projects worldwide.
