In a decisive move to strengthen India’s coastal security and operational readiness, Bhartiya Tatrakshak and the India Meteorological Department (IMD) have entered into a historic Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on 5th December 2025. This strategic partnership brings together scientific expertise and operational excellence, marking a transformative step in enhancing meteorological services, data-driven decision-making, and disaster resilience at sea.
The MoU was formalized by Director General Paramesh Sivamani, AVSM, PTM, TM, Director General Indian Coast and Director General of the India Meteorological Department, Dr. Mrutyunjay Mohapatra, underscoring a shared vision of safeguarding lives, protecting property, and fortifying India’s maritime domain against extreme weather threats.
Through this collaboration, Bhartiya Tatrakshak will gain real-time weather intelligence crucial for precise mission planning and swift response during cyclones and offshore emergencies. The IMD will support the initiative by installing Automatic Weather Stations (AWS) at key ICG air stations and facilitating seamless exchange of real-time and archived meteorological data, enhancing forecasting accuracy and operational efficiency. The partnership will also focus on training and capacity building, equipping Bhartiya Tatrakshak personnel with advanced meteorological expertise to navigate increasingly complex environmental challenges.
