Ministry of Heavy Industries organises Chintan Shivir on Alternate & Emerging E-Motor Technologies

Ministry of Heavy Industries organised a Chintan Shivir on “Alternate & Emerging Technologies in E-Motors” at Vigyan Bhawan, bringing together industry leaders, technology innovators, academic experts, and research institutions. The event focused on shaping India’s sustainable mobility ecosystem through discussions on cleaner, greener, and more efficient electric motor technologies.

Participants explored breakthrough innovations, emerging trends, and the scope of alternate motor and ancillary technologies, with particular attention on Induction Motors, Switched Reluctance Motors (SRMs), Wound-Field Synchronous Motors (WFSMs), Permanent-Magnet-Assisted Synchronous Reluctance Motors (PMA-SRMs), and motors using ferrite or non-rare-earth magnet materials. Sessions also addressed supply chain resilience, indigenous preparedness, and strategies for self-reliance in E-Motor development.

A nationally aligned roadmap for alternate motor technologies was outlined, with segment-wise prioritisation for two-wheelers, three-wheelers, passenger cars, buses, and commercial vehicles. Short-, medium-, and long-term technology options were identified based on maturity, cost, and performance.

Highlighting the vision for India’s automotive future, Secretary, Ministry of Heavy Industries, Kamran Rizvi, emphasised that the initiative goes beyond addressing rare-earth supply constraints, aiming to develop next-generation motors that are lighter, more efficient, cost-effective, and environmentally sustainable.

The Chintan Shivir concluded with a collective commitment from stakeholders to advance India’s automotive technology landscape, fostering a resilient, competitive, and future-ready ecosystem aligned with the vision of Atmanirbhar Bharat.
