POWERGRID has been awarded a Letter of Intent for the ₹2,368 crore Transmission System Strengthening project under the Tariff-Based Competitive Bidding (TBCB) framework. The project, titled “Inter-regional (NR-WR) Transmission System Strengthening to Relieve the Loading of 765 kV Vindhyachal-Varanasi D/c Line,” aims to enhance the reliability and efficiency of power transmission between Northern and Western regions of India.
As part of the project, a new 765 kV substation will be constructed at Prayagraj, complemented by 765 kV transmission lines spanning across Uttar Pradesh and Madhya Pradesh. This initiative is expected to significantly improve grid stability, optimize power flow, and support integration of renewable and conventional energy sources in the inter-regional network.
The project reflects POWERGRID’s continued commitment to strengthening India’s transmission infrastructure while ensuring reliable and efficient power delivery across regions. It also aligns with the nation’s focus on sustainable energy growth and robust electricity connectivity for industries and communities.
The award further consolidates POWERGRID’s position as the backbone of India’s power sector, enabling inclusive access to clean and reliable electricity while supporting the country’s energy transition objectives.
