President Murmu said: RBI played an important role in making India a global leader in digital payments

The President of India, Mrs. Draupadi Murmu today (1 April 2025) attended the closing ceremony of the 90th Foundation Day of the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) in Mumbai.

On this occasion, the President said that RBI has been at the center of incredible development journey of India as a central bank. He said that RBI has seen the entire journey of the country – when the country was struggling with widespread poverty in the past, now that India has become one of the top economies in the world.

The President said that RBI has become one of the most important institutions in the country. He also explained that the common man or woman does not have direct contact with the RBI-the name of its name which is printed on the currency notes in their pockets-but indirectly all their financial transactions are controlled by the RBI, through banks and other means. And they easily rely on this financial system that RBI oversees. He said that this is the biggest achievement of RBI in nine decades. The RBI has acquired this belief by maintaining its order of value stability, development and financial stability strongly.

The President also said that RBI has played an important role in making digital payments a leading leader. Through continuously modernizing the country’s payment infrastructure, RBI has ensured that digital transactions are not only comfortable and efficient, but also safe. Innovations like UPI have brought revolutionary changes in financial reach, making instantaneous, low-cost transactions possible and deepened financial inclusion.

The President said that as India is moving towards the centenary of its independence, the ‘Developed India 2047’ mission requires a financial ecosystem that is innovation, adaptability and accessible to all. He said that the way forward will present new complications and challenges. He expressed confidence that RBI would continue to be a strong pillar even further – with stability, innovation and adamant commitment to inclusion – will strengthen the bride and lead India to the future of prosperity and global leadership.

The President said that as a patron of monetary and financial stability, RBI will play a defined role in this journey – a strong banking system will ensure, promote financial innovation and preserve confidence in our financial ecosystem.
