On the occasion of World Environment Day, SJVN organised several programmes at its corporate headquarters in Shimla. The event was graced by the presence of Mr. Chandra Shekhar Yadav, Executive Director of the Human Resources Department, as the chief guest. In his address, he highlighted that “the significance of the environment has been acknowledged since ancient times in Indian Vedic traditions, which have always emphasised environmental conservation.” He also mentioned that our ancestors were aware of maintaining environmental balance, and religious texts have always revered the earth and trees.

On this occasion, Mr. Chandra Shekhar Yadav administered an environmental awareness oath to everyone. The theme for World Environment Day 2024, “Ecosystem Restoration, Combating Desertification, and Drought,” was the focus. In line with this theme, SJVN organised various competitions at Government Senior Secondary School, Tutikandi, and Government Senior Secondary School, Annadale. These included painting competitions for students in grades 6–8 and 9–10 and a speech competition for students in grades 11–12. Approximately 200 students from both schools participated in these competitions. The chief guest awarded prizes to the successful participants today. Additionally, SJVN organised various competitions for its employees, including awarding participants in the plant nurturing competition, which began on last year’s World Environment Day, and the photography competition on “Water Conservation.”

An e-waste collection drive was also conducted during the event, collecting approximately 60 kilogrammes of e-waste for disposal. Moreover, films related to the theme of World Environment Day were screened to raise environmental awareness. An exhibition displaying all the entries, including photographs and paintings from participants (SJVN employees and school students), was set up at SJVN headquarters in Shimla.

The programme was also addressed by Mr. Sanjeev Gupta, Chief General Manager of the Environment Department. The event saw the presence of Mr. Anil Kumar Goyal, Deputy Chief Vigilance Officer, and Mr. R.K. Abrol, Chief General Manager, along with all officers, employees, schoolchildren, their teachers, and parents.

World Environment Day was celebrated today in all SJVN offices across the country.
