NTPC Bongaigaon, in partnership with the Sports Council and the District Sports Office of Kokrajhar, orchestrated a rural sports gathering (2023-24) on March 29, 2024, showcasing athleticism and sportsmanship among the youth from neighboring villages. The occasion, organized under the power station’s Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) initiative, aimed to cultivate a culture of healthy competition and encourage physical activity among students.

The sports event, which drew lively participation from five local educational institutions—Dholmara High School, Salakati M.E. Salakati Junior College, Jaregaon High School, and BTPS High School—featured six thrilling competitions: the 100-meter and 200-meter sprints, 100 x 4-meter relay, long jump, shot put, and discus throw. Approximately forty-five students demonstrated their prowess and determination, with the top three contenders in each category receiving certificates of accomplishment and medals. Additionally, all participants received school bags and certificates of participation as tokens of gratitude for their dedication and sportsmanship.

The gathering was attended by esteemed figures such as Mr. Karunakar Das, Executive Director of NTPC Bongaigaon, alongside senior management personnel including Mr. K.C. Muraleedharan, CGM (O&M), Mr. Paresh Mathur, AGM (TS), Mr. Onkar Nath, AGM (HR), and Mr. Sushil Kumar Gupta, AGM (Civil). Representatives from various sports associations and unions also lent their presence to bolster and uplift the budding athletes.

In his speech at the rural sports meet, Mr. Karunakar Das, Executive Director of NTPC Bongaigaon, commended the enthusiasm displayed by the participating students. He underscored the importance of such events as drivers for community involvement in sports and the promotion of a balanced lifestyle encompassing both physical and mental well-being. Mr. Das reiterated NTPC Bongaigaon’s dedication to supporting such initiatives, which not only nurture sporting talent but also serve as platforms for community integration and comprehensive development. He expressed optimism regarding the enduring impact of such endeavors in instilling values of discipline, resilience, and teamwork among the youth.

The highlight of the gathering was the recognition of the Champion School, Dholmara High School, whose adept students secured an impressive total of 10 medals, including 4 gold, 5 silver, and 1 bronze. Salakati Senior Secondary School emerged as the runner-up, achieving a commendable 8 medals consisting of 3 gold, 4 silver, and 1 bronze.

Officials from the District Sports Office, Kokrajhar, were invited to supervise and adjudicate the matches, ensuring a fair and transparent competition for all participants.

Through this event, NTPC Bongaigaon not only promoted physical fitness but also instilled values of teamwork, discipline, and determination among the youth, contributing to their holistic development.
