Khurja Super Thermal Power Plant Achieves Milestone with First Coal Rake from Captive Amelia Mine

Shri Sipan Kumar Garg, Chairman and Managing Director, THDC India Limited, informed that the 1,320 MW Khurja Super Thermal Power Plant (KSTPP) achieved a significant milestone with the successful inaugural run of its first coal-laden own rake, sourced from THDCIL’s captive Amelia Coal Mine, on 22 January 2026.

He stated that this development marks an important step towards strengthening fuel security and ensuring uninterrupted coal supply for sustained operations of the project. The coal rake, procured as part of KSTPP’s fuel linkage and procurement strategy, was dispatched from the Amelia Coal Mine and successfully received at the KSTPP premises, signifying the commencement of a reliable and sustainable coal transportation arrangement.

The successful movement of the rake reflects effective coordination between THDC India Limited and Indian Railways, ensuring strict adherence to safety, quality, and logistical protocols.

Shri Kumar Sharad, Executive Director (Projects), highlighted that the inaugural run underscores KSTPP’s commitment to operational self-reliance and efficient resource management. He added that the availability of coal from THDCIL’s own mine along with dedicated railway wagons is expected to enhance supply assurance, optimize fuel costs, and support consistent power generation.

This milestone aligns with the broader national objective of enhancing domestic coal utilization and strengthening India’s energy security.

Senior officials of THDC India Limited, along with representatives from RITES and STEAG, were present on the occasion.
