India and Indonesia have taken a significant step toward enhancing quality assurance in traditional medicine with the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between the Pharmacopoeia Commission for Indian Medicine & Homeopathy (PCIM&H), and Ministry of Ayush, the Indonesian Food and Drug Authority. The MoU was exchanged on January 25, 2025, in the presence of Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi and Indonesian President Mr. Prabowo Subianto at Hyderabad House, New Delhi.
Advancing Global Standards in Traditional Medicine
Union Minister of State (Independent Charge) for Ayush, Shri Prataprao Jadhav, emphasized that this collaboration will ensure the safety, efficacy, and quality of traditional medicines, fostering a more scientific and regulated approach to this healthcare system.
Key Focus Areas of the MoU:
✅ Regulatory Collaboration – Exchange of information on traditional medicine regulations.
✅ Capacity Building – Joint seminars, workshops, and training programs.
✅ Technical Visits – Familiarization with regulatory frameworks of both nations.
✅ International Participation – Joint representation at global traditional medicine events.
✅ Industry Training – Specialized programs for stakeholders in the traditional medicine sector.
Strengthening Traditional Medicine’s Role in Global Healthcare
Secretary, Ministry of Ayush, Vaidya Rajesh Kotecha, highlighted that PCIM&H, an IS/ISO 9001:2015 certified institution, is committed to setting high standards for Indian medicine and homeopathy. This partnership will expand collaboration and promote knowledge exchange, benefitting both nations and the global traditional medicine community.
By integrating traditional healing practices with modern healthcare frameworks, India and Indonesia are paving the way for stronger international cooperation in holistic medicine.
